Wednesday AM

We are getting snow again! So far there is just a heavy inch but the snow continues. We will be groomed as the snow accumulates.

Tuesday PM

It was a decent day for early season skiing today, the temp did not freeze hard last night and the main trails 17 k were skiable today. The classic track has some spots to get out and is glazed but skaters were OK. 90% chance of snow Wed starting at noon, I am guessing the conditions are going to improve soon!

Monday PM

We groomed 17 km this morning and last night and it turned out to be very skiable today. We had a temp of 34 and light mist. The base is refreezing tonight and I see a 50% chance of SNOW! Our present base is thin with bare spots.

Sunday later PM

Just coming in from grooming and checking the trails. The above freezing temps did not seem to affect the trails much except in the open and flat areas, they iced up a bit. The main trails (excluding the Highlands and Peltonen) have very good cover. They may not be perfectly flat and smooth since the base is thin and there is a spot here and there where the groomer brought up debris but they are very white and skiable. Recreation classic skiers will find classic tracks glazed in many areas and thin under the Pines. We are unable to reset a classic track until more snow arrives. The exisiting classic tracks are hard and have side walls. corners and up hills have tracks that are damaged.

We have spent considerable time on summer work to make the trails smooth and skiable with low snow. We have been grooming with state of the art groomers daily and trying to catch the right time window  for grooming. We have been sending 3-5 groomers out at a time to make the trails as nice as we can. We have been reporting conditions as accurately as possible, trying to error on the conservative side.

OK so what is Monday like?  I expect 10-20 k to be nice for skating and classic will be a bit tricky depending on what trail is chosen.

Saturday PM

We had a busy day at ABR today, the main lots filled and the chalet and barns were crowded. The trails can take quite a few skiers, but with the thinner base in the afternoon some of the hills got icy.  We groomed all of the skate trails this morning and will be back out grooming them in the early AM. The classic track is holding up being a bit glazed with some worn areas.

Hautanen Highlands and Coyote Canyon have a few rough areas and the 3 down hills are very thin and icy and not recomended for recreational skiers or racers on race skis.

Please remember ski conditions change from 9 AM when the groomers are coming off the trails and mid day and late day after use.
