We have been busy with the brush cutting/trail building business. This is what we do in the summer months to stay out of trouble. Our exisiting 60 km of trails take a fair amount of maintenance and tweaking but we like to go off sight and work as well. I will post some pictures of the projects. We have been working in Ewen for the past 5 days creating hunting and recreational trails and food plots for a private land owner.

New owners for the River House

The ABR River House Sold

The River House and 5 acres sold to Will and Marianne Andresen on Friday. Will and Marianne are Ironwood residents and are deeply ingrained in the local cross country skiing and silent sports. Will is the Gogebic Community College Nordic Ski Coach.

Will and Marianne plan to recreate on the property during the off season months and they plan to rent the house as a ski house during the ski season with no changes. They have a list of our contacts of previous rental contacts.

We sold the house so we can concentrate on the ski shop and grooming the trails and the ski trails adjacent to the River House remain unchanged.

Horses are out to pasture

Louie is using the Big Honda to move trailers around, we are in summer mode, road restrictions are coming off. The groomers were put to bed last week, serviced and stored. What a early end to winter and early start to spring.

The New Snow

The new snow really groomed up well. Skiers are enjoying the April skiing.

Still cooler temps

We lost all of the snow, but the temps have been cool at night. Even though the winter was a bit shorter and milder we ran the 50 cord woodshed out of wood. We have been feeding the “DRAGON” (Central Boiler E-Classic energy effecient wood boiler) with wood we gather from other stockpiles of wood and are using the JD Gator on Camoplast Tracks.

Trans-Planting today

Today we had to fire up the wood boiler for some heat…it dropped down to 22 overnight…almost enough to dig out the long-johns. We spent the afternoon again transplanting wetland plants to the new wetlands.

Today was the day of our scheduled closing; it was such an abrupt end to winter. We have not seen another winter like this before. Thinking about gardening in late March?

Angela and I have been picking up debris/litter/trash on our daily walks on the ski trails. The cross country skiers don’t leave much behind but enough to keep us limber bending and picking. Thank you for keeping our property as clean as you do, we appreciate it!

# 1 on the list is GU tear offs and GU containers, #2 is kick wax tear offs, #3 is gum, #4 is pole basket parts and binding parts, #5 – trail maps.

Wetlands work

I spent the afternoon with Ian, a botanist working on identifying wetland species in the wetlands. It was very interesting to work with a botanist and I learned about some plant species. We also spent some time touring the trails and saw the River is down and the Ruffed Grouse and Ducks are active.

Servicing the groomers

The smaller groomers got serviced and stored today…They got alot of use this season, even though it was 106 days long. It looks like about 7,220 miles between all of them!
